OK, I'll admit it. I only lurked on Barbelith for quite some time. To be honest about it, I think the very high quality of posts intimidated me just a bit. I really liked the Head Shop, Switchboard, and Magick forums and now The Knodge has ruined it for all us harmless lurkers. Damn!

Wed, November 26, 2003 - 1:07 PMSame here.... I've posted only a couple of times in the Comics section, only to be shown my ignorance... which is a good thing!!! I *heart* Barbelith.

Re: Barbelith Lurkers
Thu, December 4, 2003 - 11:05 AMI'm fairly new to barbelith - and i'm too intimidated to post! I'm prety sure if they administered an IQ test i wouldn't qualify (overeducated though i am). I like the magic discussions quite a lot.
as an aside, does anyone else feel that tribe discussions could stand to be a wee bit more substantive overall? not trying to be negative, just trying to get a sense of what other people think. -

I'd like to see more flexibility in terms of posting - editing would be nice, certainly.
Having come here form a discussion group that tended towards massive, heavy-duty posts and incredibly deep discussions, I'm happy with the overall depth - seems to hit the right mix for me.

Re: Barbelith Lurkers
Fri, December 5, 2003 - 12:18 PMYeah, I'm with ya Becka. Alot of the people over there seem more interested in intellectually wanking off instead of actually having a conversation, a discussion, a give/get, inform/be informed, exchange of ideas. Alot of them just want to sound smarter then they really are, and I'd guess most of them are not all that clever, 'cause most people aren't, particularly the ones who try to convince you that they are.
Plus they're all crazy people too. Not that I have anything against that. -

Re: Barbelith Lurkers
Fri, December 5, 2003 - 6:51 PMI find that in order to stimulate conversation and debate on a forum, it tends to be a great deal more helpful to contribute new ideas rather than just slagging them off. of course, it's much easier to allow the responsibility to fall to others and talk about how very unsatisfactory you find the results to be.
just a thought. -

Re: Barbelith Lurkers
Thu, March 24, 2005 - 5:24 PMYeah, I dunno, I've actually not really noticed much pseudointellectual posturing going on, though I must say, I haven't spent much time there. I remember there being some manner of restricition on new registrations at the time I tried signing up, so I've only checked in periodically. -

Re: Barbelith Lurkers
Thu, June 23, 2005 - 4:45 AMi think you should all delurk.
its not that hard.
i for one like to see new faces around, and i think the more folks there the better.
if you are intimidated about delurking in a thread replete in theory bitchery that seems fair enough.
why not try helping someone out in the QnA?
or in one of the many, many 'i love x and ze wont fuck me' threads that pop up? or one of those 'i need to do X with my PC...' ones.
your advice is as worthless as mine or anyone else's, and as long as you steer clear of calling anyone names you should be fine.
and contributing to the helpful threads will make us all love you.
